Group Account Director, Medical Communications
Group Account Director, Medical Communications
Job description
Group Account Director, Medical Communications
We’re seeking a senior Medical Communications leader to oversee a high-value portfolio of Medical Affairs work and serve as a trusted partner to Global clients. This role is heavily Medical Affairs–focused and ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, client leadership, and team development. As a Group Account Director, you’ll be accountable for the health and growth of a $3–5M book of business, guiding both the strategic direction and day-to-day execution while developing future leaders within the organization.
THE ROLE
- Act as the primary strategic advisor for key Medical Affairs engagements, owning senior client relationships and guiding long-term account vision.
- Provide thoughtful, credible counsel across core MA workstreams, with exposure to publications (hands-on experience or the ability to grow into this area)
- Drive organic account expansion and contribute to new business efforts, including pitches and proposal development.
- Ensure programs are delivered with excellence—on time, on budget, and aligned with client and regulatory expectations.
- Oversee financial performance, forecasting, and resourcing for a multi-account portfolio.
- Lead and mentor account teams, including at least 1–2 direct reports.
- Foster a high-performance culture through coaching, feedback, and talent development.
- Demonstrate a clear leadership philosophy and hands-on management style beyond what’s visible on a resume.
- Partner closely with internal strategy, scientific, editorial, and operations teams.
- Navigate complexity with confidence and bring clarity to teams and clients alike.
- Deep experience in Medical Affairs within an agency environment; publications experience is a plus, but not mandatory if there’s willingness and aptitude to grow.
- Proven leadership experience with accountability for people, clients, and revenue.
- Strong strategic thinking paired with operational rigor—able to zoom out and dive in as needed.
- A track record of managing and growing multi-million-dollar accounts.
- Clear, confident communicator with executive presence.
- Ambitious, growth-oriented, and motivated to continue building both teams and business.
- Familiarity with Veeva and MLR processes is a plus.
