Global Medical Communications Director

Job description

I am seeking a senior-level, seasoned medical communications leader to lead and grow one large, complex pharmaceutical client account. This role is highly strategic and client-facing, focused on partnership, commercial impact, and delivery excellence across a broad portfolio of work.

This person will operate with a high degree of autonomy and act as the primary day-to-day senior point of contact for their assigned account, pulling in expertise and support from across the agency as needed.

Client Leadership & Partnership

  • Serve as the senior, trusted client lead for a large pharmaceutical account

  • Build and maintain strong executive-level client relationships

  • Act as a strategic advisor, understanding client business goals and translating them into actionable plans

  • Own overall client satisfaction, engagement quality, and long-term partnership health

Strategic & Commercial Ownership

  • Lead account strategy, planning, and prioritization across programs and workstreams

  • Identify growth opportunities within the account and partner with internal teams to scope and deliver them

  • Support commercial conversations including renewals, expansions, and new initiatives

  • Ensure delivery aligns with client expectations, timelines, and budgets

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Operate as an individual contributor while coordinating closely with internal teams (e.g., medcomms, strategy, operations, analytics, creative, etc.)

  • Pull in subject-matter experts and delivery teams as needed to support client objectives

  • Act as a connector and problem-solver across teams to ensure seamless execution

Delivery Oversight

  • Provide senior oversight across programs without direct people management

  • Ensure clarity of scope, quality of outputs, and consistency of execution

  • Proactively identify risks and resolve issues before they escalate

Location & Travel

  • Location: Fully remote 

  • Travel: Occasional travel to client sites as needed

Experience

  • Senior-level experience leading large pharmaceutical or life sciences accounts

  • Strong background in medcomms, agency, consulting, or related client-services environments

  • Proven ability to manage complex, high-stakes client relationships independently

  • Highly strategic thinker with strong commercial instincts

  • Executive presence and credibility with senior client stakeholders

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

  • Comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to mobilize teams without formal authority
