Staff Electrical Engineer

Job description

The Staff Electrical Engineer collaborates with and leads a dynamic, multidisciplinary team to develop next-generation medical instruments. This role is responsible for the design, development, and testing of electrical and electronic components for advanced imaging systems.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and test PCBAs and electronic system components, including cable assemblies, in compliance with applicable medical device standards.
  • Lead hardware and firmware design, perform engineering studies, and contribute to fixture and automation tool design in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Drive R&D efforts, including early-stage proof-of-concept work involving electronics, embedded systems, and computer vision technologies.
  • Produce technical documentation such as requirements specifications, design documents, test plans, and change control records.
  • Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and uphold high standards of technical excellence.
  • Conduct verification testing, including EMC and electrical safety evaluations.
  • Identify and implement improvements for existing product designs and production processes.
  • Manage vendor relationships and provide technical support to stakeholders.

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. or M.S. with at least 6+ years of direct experience
  • Proficiency in designing electrical and digital systems for medical, scientific, manufacturing, or R&D applications.
  • Experience with product development cycles, from prototyping through manufacturing transfer.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including firmware and electromechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB schematic and layout design tools (e.g., Altium or similar).
  • Demonstrated success in developing commercial products; experience in regulated industries such as medical devices is a plus.
  • Capable of creating and managing technical documentation, including test protocols and production documentation.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and issue tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of EMC and compliance testing standards, especially for regulated products.
  • Experience with embedded software (e.g., C) and related development tools preferred.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements such as IEC 60601, ISO 13485, and FDA design controls.
  • Background in high-speed digital and video system design is desirable.
  • FPGA experience is a plus.
