Job description

We are looking for a talented Electrical Control Systems Engineer to join our team in DeKalb, IL. In this role, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing electrical control systems for our heat seal packaging machinery, from concept to completion.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design and develop machine controls for heat seal packaging equipment.
  • Create electrical schematics using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Design electrical enclosure layouts using CAD tools.
  • Develop and manage Bills of Materials (BOM) within our ERP system.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and debug electrical control circuits.
  • Integrate various automation systems like inkjet, laser, and robotics.
  • Program machine control components using Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and others.
  • Manage and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Assist in developing machine manuals and quote preparation.
  • (Bonus points!) Experience programming with other PLC and HMI brands (e.g., Omron).
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering and assembly teams.
  • Perform final machine checkouts to ensure all systems function properly.
  • Provide technical support to customers via phone, factory acceptance visits, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with technical inquiries from machine assembly and sales teams.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with your manager regarding project progress, goals, and customer needs.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Is comfortable using electronic test equipment.
  • Can effectively follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Has strong programming skills with Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs (a must!).
  • Possesses experience in designing, testing, and troubleshooting industrial equipment with electro-mechanical components (relays, motors, temperature controllers, etc.).
  • Is proficient with AutoCAD or similar software for electrical design.
  • Has basic computer skills (file management, email, web browsing, MS Office).
  • Is adaptable and willing to learn new control system software.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Has at least one year of experience (co-ops and internships are welcome!).
