Preclinical/Translational Director - Oncology
Job description
BioTalent are working with a leading therapeutics company based in London. They are passionate about drug discovery and development of novel classes of therapeutics within the Oncology field.
This exciting position will allow the Preclinical/Translational Director to define and implement robust drug discovery programmes, champion in vitro and in vivo studies, support/coordinate translational activities guiding entry into clinical trials, working with a multitude of departments in a high-performing matrix environment.
You will be responsible for:
- Programme leadership within a matrix setting involving biological sciences, chemistry, safety/toxicology, translational sciences and clinical development experts.
- Strategy planning and implementation - progressing candidate molecules through nomination and preclinical development stages.
- Understanding and accelerating translational activities to identify and validate pharmacodynamic and predictive biomarkers to accompany drug development.
- Championing progress reports with clear recommendations to senior leadership, strategic partners and/or investors when required by the business.
- Aligning departments, work packages and scientific directions to ensure resource and experience are supporting project teams effectively.
- Designing preclinical and clinical development studies to facilitate late-stage candidate progression working alongside clinicians, clinical project managers and KOLs.
- Supporting external collaborations with academic leaders and CROs.
You will bring the following:
- PhD in Biological or Chemical Sciences, preferably with 8+ years industry research experience.
- Ideally 3+ years overall leadership of late-stage small molecule drug discovery programmes for solid tumours in Oncology, from candidate nomination, through preclinical development, translational and biomarker studies into clinical trials.
- Proven track record of working in a fast-paced environment, which involves managing projects and delivering to defined timelines ensuring studies and documents are completed in support of clinical trial applications.
- Desired - Experience in leading, mentoring and developing the careers of a diverse and talented teams within an industrial matrix setting.
