We bought together our BioTalent Social community together for our highly anticipated virtual panel discussion, ‘Is There Gender Bias in Data and Technology?’

Prevalent themes included accurate representation during clinical trial stages of drug discovery. Lorena Pantano, Principal Scientist at Axcella, advised that if you are targeting a certain population, it is imperative that this population is represented correctly, and while how we work currently may not be perfect, small considerations like this can help us become better when carrying out trials. Jennifer Cubino, COO at BC Platforms, spoke about the power of listening to patients. Addressing her own experience, Jennifer spoke about how she found mistakes in previous data sets that hadn’t been transcribed properly, and often inherent biases are used to minimise one’s experiences.

We’d like to thank our fantastic panel for all their thought-provoking views and insights, as well as our lively audience, many of whom joined us for our virtual networking session. Stay connected with us – we will be producing a white paper with key insights. Catch up on the video footage below.
