On Thursday evening we hosted our recent BioTalent Social webinar ‘Clinical in Switzerland: Start-up VS Pharma.’

Led by Indya Lofthouse-Smith, the discussion delved into an array of topics and insights, which included:

  • From accessible candidate pools to quality of life: why Switzerland is such a desirable place to work and live

  • There are benefits to working in both a specialist and cross-functional role, and worth exploring both

  • To gain a leadership position in start-up bio or pharma firm, be both strategic and tactical

  • Digital health, particularly AI, has accelerated over the last year and projects relating to this are being delivered

  • Switzerland’s large university presence allows for mentorship and study project opportunities for young people in their career

  • To the future: China’s ever-growing presence within Switzerland

During the discussion, our audience were posed with the question of choosing between a start-up or large organisation within pharma, to which Leon van Wouwe responded by illustrating how in start-ups ‘you have to wear different hats,’ while Rachel Meister agreed stating it allows individuals to be more ‘broad’ with their approach to work; Anne Marie D. advised our audience to pursue both career paths, adding that it will enable a ‘full-fledged career.’

We’d like to thank our fabulous panel members for their sharp and comprehensive insights during the panel discussion, and to our global audience who attended and engaged with the discussion. If you missed the webinar, take a look at the video footage here:
