Can you give us an overview of your role and your area of expertise at BioTalent?
I run BioTalent’s West Coast office and specialise in hiring experienced STEM and commercial talent for life sciences organisations, with primary expertise across MedTech and Diagnostics. I partner closely with businesses to identify high-impact professionals across regulatory, quality, engineering and R&D functions, ensuring they have the right expertise to bring innovative products to market.
What trends are you currently seeing in the life sciences market, and which skillsets are in highest demand?
AI and software are now core components of modern and innovative medical devices. Many new products entering the market are software-driven or software-enhanced devices (SaMD), which means companies are increasingly seeking talent with exposure to these areas.
We’re seeing this demand consistently across:
· AI-enabled and software-driven medical devices
· Regulatory professionals with SaMD expertise
· Quality specialists experienced in digital and connected products
· Engineering and R&D talent with strong software integration backgrounds
As devices become smarter and more connected, organisations need professionals who understand both traditional medical device frameworks and emerging digital technologies.
What inspired you to specialise in life sciences recruitment?
I actually fell into life sciences recruitment over a decade ago and quickly realised how much I loved it. I’m a self-confessed MedTech enthusiast and genuinely enjoy learning about new technologies and the impact they have on patients’ lives.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with CEOs to hear first-hand how and why they developed novel devices, including a Bluetooth-enabled insulin delivery system that the founder uses himself. I’ve also held an artificial heart currently being tested in humans and animals, technology that is actively saving lives. It’s hard to find a field that is more interesting or more rewarding.
What is the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
“Focus on what’s in your control, and let go of the rest.” It’s a simple principle, but one that keeps you grounded and productive in a fast-paced and often unpredictable industry.
If you weren’t working in recruitment, what career path might you have pursued?
I studied Audiology and Speech Pathology and originally intended to pursue a career in Audiology. Healthcare and patient impact have always been strong motivators for me, which is probably why MedTech recruitment felt like such a natural fit.
What do you enjoy most about your role at BioTalent?
The opportunity to work at the forefront of innovation while building long-term partnerships with both clients and candidates. Being part of the journey as companies develop life-changing technologies and helping them secure the talent that makes it possible is incredibly fulfilling.
