Building radioligand therapy capabilities through targeted clinical hiring

A U.S. based oncology focused CRO partnered with BioTalent to build its Radioligand Therapy (RLT) function from the ground up. With RLT emerging as a cutting-edge field but lacking in experienced talent, the client needed a strategic hiring partner to help them establish credibility and capability in this highly specialized space.

Key Stats

  • Complete RLT team built from the ground up

  • Strategic hires made across Clinical Project Management, CMC, CRA, and Functional roles

  • First-mover advantage secured in the RLT space

  • Capability expansion enabled revenue growth and new sponsor partnerships

The Context

Radioligand therapy represents one of the most promising but complex frontiers in oncology. For this CRO, entering the RLT space was a strategic move to deepen specialisation and open new market opportunities. However, without existing infrastructure or access to experienced RLT professionals, the client needed a recruitment partner with the right expertise and reach.

The Challenge

The client faced several key obstacles in launching their RLT function:

  • A highly limited talent pool with specific radiopharmaceutical and RLT experience

  • Intense competition for niche roles such as CMC consultants and Clinical Project Managers with nuclear medicine exposure

  • Urgent need to build operational capacity to support upcoming studies and partner demands

The Solution

BioTalent designed and delivered a tailored talent acquisition strategy focused entirely on RLT and radiopharmaceutical development.

We began by leveraging our expert networks to identify candidates with deep experience in nuclear medicine, radiochemistry, theranostics, and complex oncology operations. Despite the scarcity, we successfully placed key hires including three Clinical Project Managers, a CMC consultant, multiple CRAs, and other functional experts, each selected for their domain expertise and cultural alignment.

Our partnership has continued beyond initial hires, with pipeline development and workforce planning ensuring the client can scale sustainably as demand for RLT expertise grows.
