BioTalent are pleased to share one of our Cambridge-based synthetic biology organisations have just released a new opportunity for a DevOps Engineer!

This is a highly collaborative post where you will supporting teams within Bioinformatics, IT and more. Your accountabilities will include managing (maintenance, troubleshooting, optimisation) cloud infrastructure, automation and integration solutions. We expect the role to utilise a range of tools and technologies within continuous integration and deployment/delivery (CI/CD).

You will be responsible for:
  • Proactive oversight, monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure software/systems, including backups, interfaces and safety measures.
  • Providing day-to-day support and security when running AWS infrastructure.
  • Expanding AWS infrastructure capacity.
  • Working closely with internal teams (Bioinformatics, IT, Laboratory Scientists, etc.) to understand integration requirements.
  • Supporting with version control and container management.
  • Promoting continuous improvement of existing infrastructure and development processes.
  • Documenting any prospective operational bottlenecks/issues, working with internal teams to resolve or prevent these problems from happening.
  • Configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting databases.

You will bring the following:
  • Degree in Computer Science (or related field/equivalent experience)
  • Extensive DevOps experience (Life Science sector preferred)
  • Previous experience using Cloudwatch to create service monitoring metrics/alarms.
  • Experience managing the design and deployment of an AWS cloud ecosystem.
  • Experience working in Linux.
  • Languages & Technologies: Python, Bash, Docker, Kubernetes, Git. 
  • Desirable - Knowledge of Slurm Workload Scheduler.
  • Desirable - Experience with JupyterHub deployment.
  • Desirable - Experience building AWS Lambda applications.
