BioTalent are currently working with an innovative biotech who are dedicated to unravelling the mysteries of microbiomes with an aim to revolutionise healthcare and environmental sustainability.

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Senior & Principal Scientist (Computational Biology), working at the cutting-edge of science and technology in support of their mission to develop transformative solutions for healthcare, agriculture, and environmental conservation.

You will be responsible for:
  • Steering end-to-end company projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (analytical and/or platform projects).
  • Lead and represent Computational Sciences as the primary scientific/technical expert.
  • Expanding and maintaining knowledge of advanced concepts in various areas such as: microbial and host genomics, statistics, immunology, data management and software development.  
  • Designing project plans and communicating ideas, risks and logic for decision making.
  • Understanding and coordinating resource requirements for your projects whilst providing frequent progress updates.
  • Advancing the company’s computational platform by developing new analysis strategies for large heterogenous biological datasets using multi-variable statistics and/or machine learning.  
  • Work effectively to support a commercially viable therapeutics discovery platform alongside the multi-function domain groups.
  • Collaborating and communicating efficiently with senior leadership.

You will bring the following:
  • PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in Computational Biology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-academic experience in either microbiome, biomarker discovery, drug development, genome evolution and/or ecology.
  • History of working in microbiome therapy development.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills in microbial community analysis and high-throughput datasets from one or more of the following: genomics/transcriptomics, metabolomics, immunology, and genetics.
  • Experience with algorithm design, implementation, and deployment (R/Python & Unix)
  • Proficiency with complex data visualisation.
  • Desirable - Experience with microbiome drug development.
  • Desirable - Experience with a cloud computing platform (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Desirable - Experience with a workflow manager for example Snakemake or WDL.
