Case study: Global VP Oncology search for a leading pharmaceutical business

Client overview

Our client is a global pharmaceutical organisation with an established companion diagnostics portfolio. Seeking to appoint a Global VP Oncology, the organisation required a leader capable of launching a new product range and securing regulatory approval across multiple international markets. This was a uniquely complex brief, made more challenging by our client’s primary identity as a large pharma business rather than a diagnostics specialist.

The challenge

The combination of companion diagnostics expertise, global regulatory experience and commercial launch capability made this an unusually narrow talent pool to navigate. Conventional search approaches, drawing from the same visible candidate set, were unlikely to surface the calibre of individual required.

Our solution

BioX ran a global search, identifying 124 individuals at longlist stage and narrowing to a high-quality shortlist of six committed candidates across the US, UK, Germany and Switzerland. Psychometric testing was used to bridge international cultural differences and assess fit for this distinctive role. The appointed candidate was not actively seeking a move, however BioX engaged them directly through an in-person approach at The Medtech & Pharma Platform (MPP) annual conference.

The outcome

The search concluded within 2.5 months from briefing to offer acceptance. BioX's NPS score for the process was 100.

"BioX is exceptional — they took the time to understand our expectations and delivered an exceptional shortlist. I was impressed with the team’s ability to triage individuals from multiple geographies that met the brief. BioX truly went above and beyond, resulting in an effortless and successful process."

— Executive Director, global pharmaceutical organisation
