Job description

This Lead Scientist position is with a company who have developed a disruptive and impactful technology that enables them to perform comprehensive molecular analyses which can be applied to a wide range of applications.  Their ultimate aim is to enable the analysis of anything anywhere by researchers globally.  Their technology can sequence and analyse any length of DNA or RNA to result in short or ultra long read lengths.
This opportunity is exceptional because it is beyond the cutting edge, driving innovation, offers you the freedom to use your science to build a function using your vision for what is possible.  Oligonucleotide Synthesis is a new field for them internally and will be a critical function for them to support existing and new technology development.  The purpose is to establish operations by taking on a technical and leadership role to set up synthesis, purification, and analytical methodologies.  As part of the wider oligonucleotide R&D and prodcution team.

  • Lead the set up and establishment of oligonucleotide synthesis operations

You will be responsible for

  • Establish oligonucleotide synthesis capabilities as part of the wider oligonucleotide R&D group.
  • Lead from a technical viewpoint to deliver complex oligonucleotides synthesis.
  • Recruit a small team and lead them their line manager.  To train and develop
  • Set up synthesis, purification, and analytical methods for a wide range of long and modified DNA/RNA oligonucleotides
  • Characterise in high resolution using CE, LC – MS and HPLC for example
  • Onboarding of new technology & methods.

You will bring the following
  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in chemistry or relevant field
  • Demonstrable experience with oligonucleotide synthesis
  • Experience with oligonucleotide analysis and purification
  • Experience to leading a small team or project team is advantageous
  • Experience of setting up new laboratories is advantageous.
