Job description

This Automation Scientist opportunity is with an Oxford based company whose pioneering technology is aimed at accelerating the discovery and manufacture of Cell & Gene Therapies.  They have developed technologies for the design & engineering of viral vectors, cell line development and scale up of therapies using their cutting-edge capabilities.  To date they have developed products that are providing solutions to some of the challenges facing the sector such as AAV manufacture and scale up.

You will be responsible for

  • The Automation team collaborates with internal teams to translate manual to automated platforms.
  • Lead the transfer of methods to Hamilton Star robotic platforms – Assays & cell culture processes.
  • Operate as the SME for automation, partnering with scientists to develop methods from scratch.
  • Lead development of Hamilton Venus methods, software infrastructure and automated workflows.
  • Line manage a small team – manage day to day priorities, project delivery, training & development.
  • Train staff on the use of Hamilton liquid handlers.
  • Work collaboratively with team on site and partner sites to solve complex challenges.
  • Horizon scan and adopt new processes.

You will bring the following

  • Hold an MSc or BSc in a relevant field
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of Hamilton liquid handlers for assays and / or cell culture for example.
  • Experience of supervising others or managing a small team
  • Experience in the development of complex protocols on liquid handler platforms – preferably Hamilton Star.
  • Experience in the use of a general purpose programming language such as Python, Javascript or C+
  • Experience of using Hamilton Venus software is advantageous.
