Consultant spotlight: Perrin Joel - Client Solutions Director

Building long-term partnerships is at the heart of successful life sciences recruitment. As Client Solutions Director at BioTalent US, Perrin Joel works closely with organisations across the life sciences sector, helping clients grow while supporting consultants across a wide range of specialist markets. In this spotlight, she shares her insights into the rapidly evolving Digital Health landscape, the skills currently in demand, and a little about her journey beyond recruitment.

Can you give us an overview of your role and your area of expertise at BioTalent?

I am Client Solutions Director for BioTalent in the US, where I help bring on, retain and expand our client partnerships across the life sciences sector. My personal background and area of specialism is Digital Health, but I support our consultants across all of the markets we cover, helping clients find the talent they need to achieve their hiring goals.

What trends are you currently seeing in the life sciences market, and which skillsets are in highest demand?

Digital Health continues to evolve at pace, with AI becoming one of the biggest drivers of innovation across the sector. There is currently a race to develop AI platforms that improve productivity and efficiency within hospitals. While many emerging companies are leading the way, it's likely that some will be acquired, consolidated, or overtaken by established EHR providers such as Epic and Cerner, which have the scale and resources to develop their own AI capabilities.

One of the most sought-after skillsets remains go-to-market (GTM) and sales talent, particularly professionals with experience selling SaaS or AI solutions into health systems. Finding individuals who combine relevant industry experience, strong industry networks, and the right commercial mindset continues to be one of the biggest challenges for employers.

If you weren't working in recruitment, what career path might you have pursued?

My very first job was as a dog walker, followed by a role in a children's shop. After university, I worked as an estate agent. If I wasn't in recruitment, I'd probably still be working with houses in some way, perhaps in property or interior design.

Outside of work, what's something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Living in Florida has given me the perfect opportunity to pursue one of my favourite hobbies: scuba diving. I'm also a big cricket fan.
